Kroger is planning to make significant cuts to its administrative teams across the country. The Wall Street Journal reported that the company aims to use the savings to lower prices, open new locations and create more store-level jobs.

These layoffs come after Kroger's unsuccessful merger with Albertsons and its efforts to regain market share amid economic uncertainty.

In Washington, the state's Employment Security Department announced that three Kroger stores will be closing in Seattle, Redmond and Kent. This will result in more than 600 employees losing their jobs.
