HAMILTON, Ohio —

A routine maintenance inspection in Hamilton led to the discovery of human bones on Wednesday.

According to the Hamilton Police Department, the inspection was for a sewer system near the intersection of 3rd Street and Market Street. Advertisement

Police said a third-party contractor discovered “what appeared to be human bones in the sewer system.”

Thursday, the Butler County coroner confirmed the bones to be human.

Hamilton police worked with the city’s fire department, the Hamilton Department of Infrastructure and the Butler County Coroner’s Office to recover the bones.

An investigation into the discovery is ongoing by Hamilton police and the coroner’s office.
