As a candidate for the Democratic nomination in Michigan’s 2026 gubernatorial election, Gilchrist discussed what sets him apart from other candidates, how he plans to support Michigan residents in the face of changing federal legislation and improving affordability in the state. The Michigan Daily: With your background in technology, local government and as lieutenant governor, what perspective do you believe sets you apart from other candidates in the 2026 Michigan gubernatorial race?

Garlin Gilchrist: I graduated from here with a degree in computer engineering and computer science
