PHOENIX — Homes were evacuated and roads were closed in Buckeye after someone reported seeing flames coming from the ground in a Buckeye neighborhood, according to officials with the city's fire department.
Emergency crews responded to an area near Thomas Road and Sun Valley Parkway just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday for what was initially thought to be a gas leak. Buckeye police shut down roads in the area and 12 homes were evacuated while crews investigated the source of the fire.
Officials with the fire department told 12News that a small electrical vault caught on fire but was extinguished. The cause of the fire is not known at this time, officials said.
APS is on the scene investigating.
