UPDATE: August 27 at 9:25 p.m.

According to the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), the Sunset Fire has been 66% contained.

Fire crews worked throughout Wednesday securing fire lines around the entire perimeter of the fire, and continued mop-up operations.

250 structural assessments were completed during the past few days, IDL reported, as equipment was hauled by helicopters out of the burn area.

UPDATE: August 25 at 6:50 p.m.

As residents begin to return to their homes following the Sunset Fire evacuations, Sheriff Daryl Wheeler emphasized several safety measures remain in place.

The forest remains closed to the public to prevent disruption to firefighters working in the area.

Burning restrictions are also in effect.
