We should be proud of the way elections in Maine are run. We have among the highest rates of voter participation in the nation. We have virtually no proven instances of fraud . I think Question 1 on November’s ballot is unnecessary and it will weaken our elections.

Why would we want to make it harder for people to vote by mail? Absentee ballots are safe and easy for our local clerks to certify. Absentee ballots make it possible for people in the military to vote. Voting by mail is a great option for people who are unable to get to the polls.
