LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) - The Laurel Police Department added two police officers to its rolls.

Laurel Police Chief Earl Reed said that Emerys Youngberg and Justin Newbaker were sworn in Wednesday in Laurel City Council chambers by Laurel Mayor Johnny Magee.

“It’s always good to hire new officers, but it’s really special to hire officers (who’re) already certified,” Reed said. “These officers are young, energetic and smart, and they have already hit the ground running.

“I honestly feel like they will a great asset to the police department.”

Reed said Youngberg came from the Ellisville Police Department, while Newbaker had served with the Covington County Sheriff’s Office.

Reed said a third officer had been hired, but could not make Wednesday ceremony.
