TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The recount for the City Council's Ward 3 election began today. This development follows a Pima County Superior Court judge's decision to deny Democratic candidate Sadie Shaw's motion for a new election earlier this week. Shaw had claimed that a ballot error might have impacted the vote.
Shaw released a statement saying, "We will not be appealing the court's decision, but I will continue to demand accountability and to advocate for a system where every Tucsonan can have full confidence that their vote will be counted. We now await the results of the automatic recount."
Incumbent Kevin Dahl originally led challenger Sadie Shaw by just 19 votes.
