A man suspected of intentionally striking a pedestrian with his vehicle in Torrance, seriously injuring the victim, has been taken into custody, police announced Wednesday.

Officers responded to the 18400 block of Elgar Avenue, three blocks west of Crenshaw Boulevard and just south of the San Diego (405) Freeway, on March 25 to reports regarding a collision, according to the Torrance Police Department.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect was traveling northbound on Elgar Avenue and allegedly yelled ”RIP” while fleeing the scene, police said.

The suspect was later identified as Sergio Martinez Jr. of Inglewood, who was taken into custody on Friday for outstanding warrants, including a $1 million warrant issued in Torrance for attempted murder, after being located by traffic i
