CHESTER — After fielding conflicts with his city council and the Chester Fire District Commission, Malik Whitaker is out as the city’s administrator.
The Chester City Council voted 5-3 to fire Whitaker, who had been in the job for about three years, at its Aug. 25 meeting. The vote, not scheduled on the agenda that night, was motioned by Councilwoman Robbie King-Boyd. It took some members by surprise.
“I’m still reeling, and it still bothers me,” said Councilman Terry Foster, who voted in the minority. “I thought the man was doing an excellent job.”
Foster said no discussion was held for the vote, and the meeting ended immediately after the firing. King-Boyd could not be reached for comment.
