CHARLESTON — The minor children of a woman who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend will see a fraction of his estate after the discovery of years-long tax fraud and a protracted probate court fight, according to new court filings.

Ninth Circuit Judge Thomas Rode approved a $200,000 settlement on Aug. 26 for the children of Megan Rich, one of whom she shared with Brian Curtis Baker, 59.

Baker is the person police believed killed Rich, 41, on Aug. 12, 2022, following an argument that was captured on home surveillance footage. Baker can be heard beating Rich in the video, according to a wrongful death lawsuit filed in April 2023 . Baker took his own life as police were closing in for a murder arrest.
