Nearly 52,000 people have signed a Change.org petition calling on the UK Government to raise the Inheritance Tax threshold to £1 million, warning that the current rules unfairly punish families already struggling with the cost of living .
Petition starter Roberta Khan argues that Inheritance Tax and Stamp Duty amount to ‘double taxation’ by taking from people who have already paid a lifetime of taxes on their earnings, homes, pensions and savings.
While the petition calls for the threshold to be raised to £1 million, the Labour Government has frozen current allowances until 2030 and is expanding what counts towards Inheritance Tax - meaning more, not fewer, families will be caught by the system.
