CLAIRFIELD, Tenn. — Clairfield Elementary is closed Thursday due to an ongoing search for two escaped inmates in Bell County, Kentucky.
Kentucky State Police said Steven Spencer and Billy Potter, escaped from Bell County Forestry Camp around 8:53 p.m. Monday.
The school said the decision was made "out of extreme caution." On Tuesday and Wednesday, the school was on "secure status," meaning all doors remained locked, no buses ran and after school activities were canceled.
According to KSP, Potter was in the prison camp on two counts of evading police, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, bail jumping, tampering with evidence and criminal mischief. He was last seen wearing khaki pants, a white short-sleeve t-shirt, a khaki baseball cap and black boots.
