CRANSTON – City Council President Jessica Marino and the Council’s lawyer, Stephen Angell, resigned Wednesday, Aug. 27 amid criticism of their romantic relationship , and in doing so, accused Mayor Kenneth Hopkins and “his cronies” of a malicious, personal vendetta against them.
Speaking one week after the Council’s top Republican raised publicly his concerns that the relationship posed a conflict of interest, both Marino, a Democrat, and Angell emphatically denied any wrongdoing and said they had served the city honestly and with integrity.
