WILMINGTON, N.C. — The chairman of the Surry County Board of Elections is facing charges after police said he allegedly put drugs into the ice cream of his two granddaughters.
On August 8, the Wilmington Police Department said an officer was flagged down by 66-year-old James Yokeley at the Sheetz on Shipyard Boulevard. Yokeley told the officer that his two granddaughters had discovered “hard objects” in ice cream they purchased from a Dairy Queen. Medical personnel checked both children and determined they had not ingested the substances.
Police said the pills were collected, and a preliminary field test indicated that they contained illegal narcotics. The substances were sent to the State Lab for further confirmation. Detectives reviewed video footage and determined that Yokeley had pla
