Tucked into the crook where Victoria Avenue intersects with Ring Road, a trailer court stood. It had been a part of Regina since the 1950s, even before the highway was carved out.

For seven decades, the 150 lots that made up the Glen Elm Mobile Home Community had been home for many in east Regina.

Springtime brought out life in the community. Neighbours barbecued together, retirees tended to their neat lawns while children freely ran and played.

This year was different.

Residents were gutted when they opened their mailboxes to find a three-month notice of eviction.

Those letters didn’t arrive all at the same time, however.

The mobile home community had been a place where soon-to-be retirees could live comfortably in Regina on a fixed income. Some had lived there for a couple of decad
