GRAND RAPIDS - After months of sweat and hard work, the 2025 Michigan high school football season is set to kick off tonight.

Despite most of the players having to grind through camp in temperatures that have been soaring into the 90s, it’s shaping up to be closer to traditional football weather on Thursday and Friday night, with games starting in the 60s at kickoff, with temperatures expected to drop into the 50s by the final whistle.

Arguably, the biggest matchup takes place just north of Grand Rapids. Rockford , coming off a shocking first-round exit in last year’s D1 playoffs to rival Grandville, plays host to Saline, which enters the new season ranked No. 4 in MLive’s preseason rankings. The Rams and Hornets both have the firepower to be tough teams to beat come the postseason.
