The City of Edmonton has activated its extreme weather response as daytime highs climb above 30 C and the heat shows no sign of easing until early next week. The alert, in effect until 9 a.m. next Monday, is triggered when forecasts predict three consecutive days of temperatures above 29 C and overnight lows above 14 C.

While no major wildfires are burning in the city itself, city officials said the combination of extreme heat, dry vegetation and occasional wind is raising the fire threat in Edmonton and surrounding areas, making vigilance essential.
