The Manitoba government is committing $150,000 to support regional teams working to prevent sexual exploitation and human trafficking.
Recommended Videos Families Minister Nahanni Fontaine, who is also responsible for women and gender equity, announced the funding Friday at a tree-planting ceremony on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature. The tree was planted in memory of Tracia Owen, whose death in 2005 brought public attention to the dangers faced by youth. The investment will go toward Tracia’s Trust, the province’s long-standing strategy against sexual exploitation. The money will help 12 regional teams organize local events in communities across Manitoba to honour Owen and raise awareness about the issue.
