ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. — "I'm completely crushed," said Sierra Meskil, who cannot stop shedding tears for her father, 49-year-old Harold Schaedler.
At about 6 p.m. Saturday, her father hopped on his motorized bike and took off for what was supposed to be another routine ride down Illinois Route 157 near Foley Drive in Cahokia Heights, she said.
"He would go hang out with friends, and he may come home late, and that was fine, but normally there was a contact," Meskil said.
However, when Schaedler didn't return home, his family knew something was wrong.
Monday, the St. Clair County coroner knocked on their door with awful news: Someone hit the beloved father of five with a car, killed him and took off.
"It was horrible. We had to call and let loved ones know," Meskil said.
