A tropical wave is forecast to emerge off the west coast of Africa on Sunday and move west to northwest to the eastern and central tropical Atlantic next week, forecasters said Thursday morning.

The system should encounter environmental conditions that support some slow development next week as it moves west at 15 to 20 mph, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said.

As of 7 a.m. Thursday, the tropical wave had a 20% chance of becoming a tropical depression or storm.

There is no immediate threat to Louisiana from the expected system.

Tropical Storm Fernand also became post-tropical in the middle of the Atlantic and forecasters will cease providing updates Thursday morning.
