BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Inside every seed is the potential for a bountiful harvest. And for many Brazos Valley corn farmers, it’s time to see that potential realized.
“We planted earlier than we normally do and we avoided a late frost, and we got a good start that allowed us to have that crop hit that critical reproductive stage, at tassel, before the heat hit,” Burleson County farmer, John Malazzo explained.
The tassel phase is when the corn plant is pollinated and less heat leads to better pollination. A timely rain around Mother’s Day helped make a good crop.
“Our moisture level on the corn is proper. We always like to get it below 15%, and I think we’re going to be well below that right now. The longer we wait, the less the moisture percentage will be, which means less weight that w
