BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Thursday: A trough of low pressure will sit across the Eastern U.S. on Thursday, with northerly winds aloft across Alabama sending an upper-level wave over the state. We will be dry at the surface, but there is plenty of moisture aloft to develop rain. A front along the coast will help bring rain back to Central Alabama due to overrunning. This pattern is more common in winter than in August. The morning will be dry, but scattered showers and storms are expected to arrive during the afternoon and continue through Thursday night. Highs will be in the lower to mid-80s.
