A 67-year-old woman has died and a 67-year-old man is in serious condition following a single-vehicle crash in Wainfleet, Ont., police say.

Officers responded to reports of a collision on Burnaby Road between Highway 3 and Lakeshore Road in Wainfleet around 4:25 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release from Niagara Regional Police Service.

When officers arrived they found a heavily damaged black 2017 Kia Sportage overturned in the east-side ditch. Both occupants were trapped inside the vehicle, police said.

Citing witness accounts, police said the Kia had been travelling northbound on Burnaby Road "at a high rate of speed" when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
