(FOX40.COM) -- Patterson High School is cutting a new pathway for students by launching its first ever Barbering and Cosmetology program and unveiling a state-of-the-art building to go with it.

This is the first and only program of its kind in Stanislaus County.

The renovated facility used to be the old band room, but it’s now a full-scale salon equipped with all the rooms and tools where students can learn everything from haircuts, shaving, beard grooming, nails, eyebrow tinting, waxing, make-up artistry and hair replacement techniques.

For seniors like Emandrea Osborne, the opportunity is a game-changer.

“It’s just a great opportunity because it’s something that wasn’t offered before,” Osborne said, as she curled waves on a mannequin head named Susie Kin.
