GATLINBURG, Tenn. — Kuwohi Road in Great Smoky Mountain National Park will be temporarily closed for half-days on Sept. 9 and 16 to host special cultural education programs.
The park will be hosting Swain County and Qualla Boundary schools those days. The park will close the road at midnight the night before each event and will reopen by 2 p.m.
During the closure, the seven-mile roadway will be closed to all pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Visitors should consider alternative destinations.
The closures support Kuwohi Connection Days, which provides students the opportunity to visit Kuwohi and learn about its historical and spiritual significance.
