A search for two missing boaters on Upper Kananaskis Lake has been paused due to dangerous weather conditions, after a canoe carrying four people capsized Tuesday afternoon.

Cochrane RCMP and Kananaskis Emergency Services were called to the lake around 4 p.m. after a canoe carrying four people overturned.

Bystanders on boats and paddleboards rescued a 30-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman, but another man and woman in their 30s remain missing.

“The search has been delayed right now due to high winds that are making the water treacherous, however, there is a plan in place,” said Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.

Crews are expected to restart the search Wednesday morning, using sonar to look for anomalies before deploying divers if needed.
