MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Roxz, a 4‑year‑old Milwaukee pit bull, is the only Wisconsin semi‑finalist for the 15th American Humane Society Hero Dog Award.

Vicky Van Lare, founder of Roxz’s Resources & Awareness, joined us on Thursday, Aug. 28 to explain why Roxz is a standout candidate and how the public can help.

Voting is underway online, with supporters eligible to vote once per category every 24 hours until Sunday, Sept. 15.

Roxz visits neighborhoods to help Van Lare distribute pet food, advocate for veterinary care and sterilization and support pet owners in need. Her efforts challenge stereotypes
