SARASOTA, Fla. ( WWSB ) -The city of Sarasota is next in line to remove asphalt artwork off sidewalks and crosswalks. It’s a move by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Dozens of people showed up on Wednesday to rally outside of the Social Equity through Education Alliance (SEE Alliance) building.

Zander Moricz, the founder and executive director of SEE Alliance said their team was alerted Tuesday night that their artwork on the sidewalks would be removed on Wednesday.

The alliance put out a call to action, receiving 100 responses, Moricz said.

“What we saw here is a clear demonstration that the people of Sarasota, ages 9 to 92, want to see our art, our stories, our culture, and our tradition protected, and that’s what this is all about.”
