A man was hospitalized and left with multiple wounds on his head during a machete attack involving four suspects in Downtown Los Angeles early Thursday morning.

The incident in the area of East 5th Street and San Pedro Street was reported around 2:30 a.m., a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson confirmed to KTLA.

The unidentified victim was transported by ambulance from the scene in unknown condition, the spokesperson said.

Arriving officers found the victim being attacked by the four suspects, who fled the scene as they approached, freelance media firm KNN reported.

Video from the scene showed a pool of blood still in the street where first responders were treating the victim. One person was also seen being detained.
