STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority will discontinue two express bus routes on Staten Island, beginning in September.

According to signs posted on MTA buses, the SIM4x and SIM8x will cease operations beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

These two lines abbreviate the Staten Island portion of the standard SIM4 and SIM8, both making just two stops in the borough before heading to Downtown and Midtown Manhattan, respectively.

Each weekday, the SIM4x makes 15 trips while the SIM8x makes 16 trips.

On social media, Staten Islanders — particularly those who use the soon-to-be cancelled bus lines — complained that the move would lead to bigger crowds on the regular SIM4 and SIM8 lines.
