Large police presence in Shrewsbury as officers search for armed suspect

Shrewsbury police are searching for an armed suspect in the Jordan Pond area, prompting the lockdown of a nearby school.

Police released a statement on Facebook at 9:49 a.m. about "a large law enforcement presence in the Jordan Pond/Edgewater Avenue/Plainfield Avenue area."

Officers are looking for a person who is “an armed and dangerous suspect,” the statement read. Police have not disclosed any inciting incidents that prompted this search.

Calvin Coolidge Elementary School was placed on lockdown, but Shrewsbury Select Board member Beth Casavant told the Shrewsbury Post that the shooting was not connected to the school.

The police department asks the public to avoid the area and to take shelter.
