For more than a decade, the United Steelworkers and U.S. Steel have worked in a unique partnership as the Iron Ore Alliance to advocate for and promote Minnesota’s legacy of iron mining. This legacy goes far beyond the jobs and economic output of mining on the Iron Range; it’s a shared set of values and way of life.

Iron mining occurs in some of Minnesota’s most valued and pristine environmental areas, and those of us who work in the industry and call the Iron Range home want to keep it that way. This includes our state’s wild rice waters and efforts to understand how sulfates from mining and other industries can be best managed. We need science-based solutions to protect wild rice and the industries on which Minnesota communities rely.
