Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO) appeared to distance himself from President Donald Trump in a town hall that remained uncommonly civil.

Alford, while speaking in the west central part of his home state on Monday night, praised Trump at times, but put up a wall when confronted by angry constituents, specifically over the president’s executive actions and the “big, beautiful bill” signed into law last month.

Unlike other town halls hosted by representatives on both sides of the political aisle, Alford’s event did not delve into chaos, despite answering questions from a Democratic-leaning audience. The GOP congressman was previously met with criticism over Trump’s policies at a separate event shortly after his inauguration.
