AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department announced Thursday that all personal watercrafts will not be allowed on Lake Austin during Labor Day weekend to ensure public safety.

The temporary ban will go in effect from Friday, Aug. 29, and last until Tuesday, Sept. 2.

The ban prohibits the use of personal watercraft, wet bikes, motorized surfboards and similar devices designed to be operated by a person sitting, standing, or kneeling on the vessel while on Lake Austin.

Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards will still be allowed, as long as individuals are sitting or standing in the vessel.

Police say they will patrol the area around the lake, and they are urging people to practice safe boating. In case of emergencies on the water, authorities advise calling 911.
