BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The driver of a Jeep Patriot that police say veered into the opposite lane on the evening of Aug. 10 and collided with a car, killing a 16-year-old girl, has been booked into jail on suspicion of murder, according to inmate records.

Jamie Steven Oceguera is being held without bail in connection with the deadly crash that took place on Union Avenue between Columbus Street and Monte Vista Drive. It's alleged he was under the influence of a drug.

Oceguera, 35, is due in court Friday.

Police said the Jeep Patriot was heading west on Panorama Drive when it entered the northbound lane of Union Avenue, hitting a Hyundai Elantra.
