HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — How much weight do you think a lily pad can hold? It’s probably more than you’d imagine.

The Huntsville Botanical Garden competed in a nationwide "Waterlily Weigh-off," and its star entry, a Victoria Waterlily nicknamed “Tory,” made quite the impression.

The Denver Botanical Garden announced the winner and runners-up on Thursday, and Huntsville took 3rd place!

During the garden’s weigh-in, Tory supported over 175 pounds of sandbags and weights before finally sinking. A TikTok video of the moment quickly went viral, drawing thousands of viewers who were just as shocked as the staff.

Horticultural Manager Max McKeown admitted that he was surprised by the result.

“It was me and another staff member, we just kept adding, and I was like ok, we’re over 100 pounds,
