MORDEN – A 13-year-old girl is being hailed as a hero after her quick actions helped prevent a kitchen fire from spreading through an apartment complex Friday morning.

At 8:35 a.m., Morden Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene of a blaze. But by the time firefighters arrived, the young resident had already taken lifesaving steps.

According to officials, the teen immediately pulled the building’s fire alarm to alert neighbours, grabbed a fire extinguisher from the hallway, evacuated her younger siblings, called out to her mother who was in the shower, and then successfully put out the flames before crews arrived.

When asked what inspired her quick response, she credited a fire safety presentation given at her school by Morden Fire & Rescue.
