We want our federal government to consist of employees who have sharpened skills and expertise, along with institutional memory. When a crisis strikes, there must be seasoned employees who can amass data, analyze it, and then propose coherent avenues for pressing forward.
I have been a sharp critic of the dangerous firings of federal employees across wide sections of our government. It undermines the safety of our nation and the integrity of our government when professionals from the CIA, FBI, Justice Department, and State Department were fired this year.
