NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating what led to a shooting near a McDonald’s in Nashville’s West End.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at 2700 West End Avenue on Wednesday night.

Officers located a man with a single gunshot wound to his left femoral artery (leg), according to an arrest affidavit. Officers rendered aid before the man was transported by medical personnel to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

MNPD said while officers were helping the victim, the suspected shooter walked up with his hands raised and “freely” admitted that he had shot the victim in self-defense, the arrest report states. The suspect, 20-year-old Kelvin Burns, was detained and declined to give further statements, MNPD said.
