Flags have been lowered to half-staff in Washington state and across the United States in honor of the victims of the Aug. 27 attack on a Minnesota church.

President Donald Trump issued a proclamation Aug. 27 ordering that the U.S. flag be flown at half-staff on federal property until sunset on Aug. 31 as "a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated" at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis.

Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson issued a directive Aug. 27 that the Washington state and U.S. flags be lowered "immediately" at all state agencies, pursuant to Trump's proclamation.
