Six schools on Vancouver Island will be home to 270 new childcare spaces for before and after-school care for the upcoming school year.

The B.C. government announced on Thursday that across the province there will be a total of 640 new spaces at 18 centres, 270 of which are in Island schools.

On Vancouver Island, the spaces will be at: • Nanaimo: 52 spaces at Georgia Avenue Elementary Learning and Child Care Centre • Port Alberni: 22 spaces at Magnolia School Age Care • Tofino: 76 spaces at ?u?aa(t)uk ^Ta^na -Taking Care of Children • Ucluelet: 44 spaces at The Children’s Grove • Victoria: 40 spaces at Kids Klub Centre McKenzie school • Victoria: 36 spaces at Victoria High Secondary school
