The Regional District of Nanaimo’s 2025-29 capital plan outlines more than 70 recreational centre, regional park and community park and hall projects to be implements in the RDN’s municipalities and electoral areas, should the board approve their development.

The RDN board is using the projects on this plan to inform the 2026 budget and 2026-30 financial plan.

There are more than 20 regional parks projects on the capital plan, one of which is the Descanso Bay accessibility project. This project is currently underway and will see the addition of an 18-metre permanent aluminum ramp and seasonal mobility map, making the bay’s beach accessible to those with mobility challenges. The RDN has budgeted $200,000 towards the project in 2026.
