Strathcona County RCMP have announced that charges have been laid against the armed individual who made his way into the detachment parking lot of the RCMP station.

On July 29, Strathcona County RCMP arrested and charged 54-year-old Sean Bennett with one count of using an imitation firearm while committing an indictable offence, assault with a weapon and assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.

During the confrontation, multiple officers fired their service weapons at Bennett, and he was hit multiple times. He was then taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Bennett has been released on conditions with a scheduled court date of October 1 in a Sherwood Park court.
