WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco man was indicted Thursday in the Feb. 22 shooting death of another man during an apparent dispute over a cell phone left at an East Waco gas station.
A McLennan County grand jury indicted Howard Lewis McCreary III, 34, for murder in the death of 45-year-old Randy Carpenter, who was killed in the 2600 block of Grim Avenue by a masked gunman.
According to Waco police arrest records, McCreary was a customer at a gas station at 1101 Elm Ave. and found a cell phone. Store video footage shows McCreary finding the phone on a post in the parking lot and taking it with him.
McCreary’s wife told investigators she was there when her husband found the phone and said he went inside the store to see if he could find the owner of the phone, an arrest affidavit states.
