CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Police Department is preparing for the possible arrival of National Guard troops, and Thursday city leaders briefed members of the City Council on what the response will be.

Mayor Brandon Johnson and Police Superintendent Larry Snelling shared details with the media, and there were more questions than answers. The superintendent was asked how police will interact with the Guard.

"It's impossible to answer that question without knowing if they're going to be here, what their orders are, what purpose they intend to serve. But the key here is to communicate, to have some type of communication, so that nothing gets out of hand, nothing gets out of control, and we maintain peace in our city," Snelling said.
