FAIRMONT, W.Va. (WBOY) — All six lanes of Interstate 79 in Marion County are finally open after a more than four-year widening project.

Cones were removed from the construction zone Thursday morning, marking the completion of the expansion of I-79 from four lanes to six between mile markers 132 and 135 between White Hall and Fairmont.

The project began back in May 2021 and was originally scheduled to be completed in September 2024, although a project update in 2024 pushed that date back to summer of 2025.
