WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - The Big E opens in approximately two weeks and, as always, it’s expected to attract hundreds of thousands of people and heavy traffic and, on Thursday, West Springfield Mayor Will Reichelt addressed concerns about ongoing construction along the main route leading to the fair.

“Sometimes, you get stuck in traffic for 15, 20 minutes. I try to go around if I can, but if I need to stay on this route, then you’re kind of stuck in the traffic,” said Nancy Kingsbury of West Springfield.

Kingsbury is a lifelong town resident and drives on Memorial Avenue almost every day. Like other drivers, she’s had to deal with ongoing road construction, right along most of the entrances to Eastern State Exposition fairgrounds. “It gets backed up when there isn’t The Big E,”
