The Manitoba government has completed construction of the new Whiteshell Natural History Museum at Nutimik Lake, officially reopening the site after years of closure.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Mike Moyes announced the opening Friday, noting the facility replaces the original museum built in 1959. The earlier building, known for its collection of local wildlife displays, closed in 2017.

The province invested $2.2 million in the project, which incorporates original elements such as the fireplace, chimney and classroom, while adding a reception building, washrooms, an amphitheatre and a covered exhibition space. The museum also features new interpretive panels highlighting petroforms found in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
