HARVEY, La. (WGNO) — Officials with Jefferson Parish Schools announced on Thursday, Aug. 28, they have earned several grants to upgrade school security in the parish.

In total, the parish has received 13 grants equaling $605,600. This comes through the Louisiana Center for Safe Schools program created by the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.

School board officials say the grants will allow for each school to receive up to $50,000 per school site to strengthen the schools ability to prevent, protect against and respond to threats of violence on campus.
